This is that obligatory “sorry I haven’t posted in a while” post that everyone loves on the blogs they read. My apologies. I’ve been working on the book and a few other projects at the same time. If anyone actually still reads this (I know a college friend does now, hello G!), sorry for the lack of posts. I promise to put up… someone’s pics this week. Maybe Kim? Maybe Matt. Stay tuned!
It turns out that the Gallery plugin I’ve been using for Wordpress isn’t resizing the images on the server like I thought it would, so when you pull up certain pictures (or entire galleries like Chris’s), it takes FOREVER to load.
I’m resizing the huge images right now. It takes about 25 minutes to download the images back to my machine, then I’ll run them through a Photoshop resizing action, then it takes about half an hour to reupload them. For every gallery.
Not a big deal, but something I’ll have to work out for our next round… which I think will be in late April or early May.
Hokay, so.
All the pictures are uploaded and sitting in the system. I’m more excited than a 16-year old on prom night.
I’m going to add a form so people can sign up for round two if they’d like to, but other than that, everything’s ready now.
Starting Tuesday, I’ll put up one person’s daily gallery every few days. After they’re all up and the kinks are ironed out I’ll put up the one big album. And with any luck, the book will be ready and on it’s way to the printer and Amazon, etc etc.
Rock.
If you’ve subscribed to the site, I apologize for all the junk you might have seen or will see pop up in your reader today. I think I finally figured out the new technology behind displaying the pictures (HOO-freakin-RAY!) and am starting to upload things.
I’ll post something new once the albums and galleries are up later this weekend.
Rock.
…for me anyways.
75 pictures later and I’m ready for bed.
I hope to never use the timer on my phone again or hear the “Doorbell” ringtone that was set to let me know when it had been 10 minutes and time to take another picture.
But it really was a lot of fun.
I’m still trying to decide if I want to upload my pics to my Flickr before I they’re posted to the site. So we’ll see. I had a few really cool shots, a few really bad ones and some OK ones.
How was it for you?
I think I just silenced/reset my timer and took my 30th pic of the day. This is the third time in a row I’ve thought “oh crap, when was the last time I took a picture?”, then look down to see that it’s exactly 10 minutes ago.
I was admittedly very scared of this annoying me throughout the day, but it’s getting really fun now. Especially since I haven’t gone anywhere since getting to work this morning.
Awesome.
